Integrating Somatic & Sensory Therapies With Play Therapy For Treating Complex Trauma

Jenn Lefebre

Workshop Description

Somatic psychotherapy is a holistic approach that incorporates the client’s mind, body, emotions, and spirit into the healing process. Through the lens of somatic and sensory-based therapies, this 12 hour workshop will explore how trauma affects the development of the brain and body, emphasizing the use of body language and non-verbal cues to understand the "somatic narrative" in treatment rather than relying on verbal communication alone. Participants will learn sensory and embodied play therapy interventions to decrease trauma symptoms and increase resiliency, adaptive meaning-making, and new competencies for use by play therapists and other clinicians in their work with children, adolescents, and adults who have complex trauma histories.
