Play Therapy with Children of Divorce: Helping Parents Cope with Warring Parents

Workshop Description

Children are often caught in the middle of intense conflict between warrior parents, who seem unable to set aside difficult emotions in order to facilitate smooth adjustment for their children. Thus, children can experience loyalty pulls, a desire to protect one parent against the other, a need to take sides, or profound sadness, worry, and distress. This workshop will present a play therapy approach designed to strengthen children’s self-esteem, get them out of the tug of war, and help them understand how to negotiate intense family emotions. Family play therapy techniques are suggested.
